In honor of Mother’s Day, Hestan ambassador Kelly Scott of Kelly’s Clean Kitchen shares a cherished family recipe passed down from her grandmother—the woman who first inspired her to cook. This hearty, slow-simmered bolognese blends ground pork and beef, San Marzano tomatoes, and fresh basil into a rich, comforting sauce that’s full of tradition and love.
This recipe is a tribute to the women who shaped us, the meals that bring us together, and the stories we carry forward through food. We invite you to try it, share it, and celebrate the inspiration behind it.

Directions
In the ProBond Braiser, heat add a few tablespoons of olive oil to coat the bottom of the pan. Once hot, add the onion, celery and carrot and saute until cooked through, salting as you go. This usually takes 5-8 minutes. Once translucent, add the minced garlic and cook for another 2 minutes. Turn off the heat.
While the vegetables are cooking, in a large ProBond Skillet, heat over medium high heat, add olive oil and once hot, add the ground pork. Saute until cooked through and browned off, salting as you go. Transfer to the ProBond Braiser with the vegetables.
In the same large ProBond Skillet over medium high heat, add olive oil and once hot, add the ground beef. Saute until cooked through and browned off, salting as you go. Transfer to the ProBond Braiser with the vegetables.
- Stir in the tomatoes, crushing them first with your hands so they are roughly chopped. Stir in the chicken stock and basil and season with salt and pepper. Bring up to a low simmer and top with a lid. Make sure it is very lowly bubbling. Simmer for 1-3 hours, stirring every 20 minutes or so. The longer you simmer, the more depth of flavor there will be.
- Remove the basil and discard. Taste the bolognese for seasoning and adjust accordingly. Serve and enjoy!
