Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 550°F. Generously grease your sheet pan with butter. Press your pizza dough out onto the sheet pan and then cover it lightly and let it rest while you prepare the pizza toppings.

  2. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet. Add in the onions and sauté over medium heat until they begin to soften. Reduce heat to medium-low. Continue cooking the onions, stirring occasionally until they are jammy and caramelized. Once the onions are done remove them from the skillet and set aside.

  3. In the same skillet cook the Italian sausage until just cooked through and lightly browned. Don’t brown it too much as it will continue to cook in the oven! Transfer the sausage to a paper towel lined plate to drain off the excess fat.

  4. Once you have all your toppings prepared and your oven is preheated, return to the pizza dough on the sheet pan and use a fork to prick a few holes in the dough. Brush the pizza dough lightly with olive oil and place in the oven to par-bake for about 15 minutes until the crust is lightly golden and puffed.

  5. Remove the par-baked crust from the oven and transfer it to a wire rack to cool for about 5 minutes. Reduce the oven temperature to 450°F. Add your toppings evenly to the pizza crust starting with a layer of fig jam, then a third of the cheeses, caramelized onions, butternut squash, sausage and finally finish with the remaining cheese.

  6. Return the pizza to the oven and bake until the cheese is golden and bubbly and the crust is nice and crispy around the edges and on the bottom. Once the pizza is done remove it from the oven and return it to the wire rack. Top with fresh basil, Parmesan cheese and a drizzle of hot honey before serving!
